I would offer that if your friends are what I would call severely defensive, i.e. you may have had some strong debates in the past, or they may have just reacted harshly to some of your ideas, I think Boundary Stones is very gracious for someone like that.

And it's so short in length (but big in content) that anybody who is sincere in their concern should be able to read this small book.

From the outset, it states that it doesn't try to persuade you to do anything, just to consider where the biblical boundaries are in relation to common teaching.
